The 3G Uplink is now limited to about maximum of 60KB/s download speeds. This is quite a low speed in current GSM technology speed standards.

By implementing better support to 3G, Wippies Homebox could be an attractive solution (even with current price) compared to other "3G-routers" currently on the market.

This appears to be a power issue. Friend of mine bought an USB hub with external power adapter. Download speed with 5M mobile broadband connection and Huawei E169 thru the USB hub was 300kB/s when without the hub the download speed was approx. 60kB/s.

Edit: Fixed the 3G dongle model, have earlier wrote "E180", but it was supposed to be "E169".

That sounds interesting. I always thought this was a driver issue. I tried this with Huawei E270 with a Y-model USB-cable, one end connected to a computer and the other to Homebox. This didn't make any change to the speed.

I'll try finding a USB-hub with AC adapter.

This could be a driver issue after all. User "pekko" reported on the forums (link to the thread below) that Option Icon 225 with Sauna34 gives 560kB/s download speed while Huawei E220 works a way slower.

It seems that Huawei E180 and Option Icon 225 are beyond this issue. Both work perfectly without speed issues and doesn't require any external USB hubs.

So far the affected speed issue dongles/modems are:
- E169
- E220
- E270

If we use usb-modeswitch app for handling 3G modems/dongles the problem might be that USB Connection > GPRS/EDGE/UMTS Config > USB device packet size is NOT set to 4096 as this can cause speed issues.
